77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to creation and maintenance of an electronic database to
1010 provide information to certain members of the United States armed
1111 forces regarding the resources and benefits provided to veterans.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is
1414 amended by adding Section 434.0261 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 434.0261. ELECTRONIC DATABASE OF CONTACT INFORMATION
1616 FOR SERVICE MEMBERS LEAVING ACTIVE DUTY. (a) The commission shall
1717 establish and maintain an electronic database that includes the
1818 name and contact information of each member of the United States
1919 armed forces who:
2020 (1) has provided written consent to the commission to
2121 have the member's information included in the database; and
2222 (2) will be discharged or released from active duty
2323 within 12 months of the date the member provides the consent
2424 described by Subdivision (1).
2525 (b) The database established under Subsection (a) must
2626 allow state agencies and local veteran service organizations,
2727 including veterans county service offices, that have applied to and
2828 been approved by the commission to access the database for the
2929 purpose of providing to members of the United States armed forces
3030 included in the database information regarding state and local
3131 benefits and resources available to veterans, including
3232 information regarding employment and training opportunities,
3333 housing, entrepreneurial and health care services, and veteran
3434 support groups.
3535 (c) The commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement
3636 and administer this section, including rules establishing the
3737 procedure by which entities apply to and are approved by the
3838 commission to access the database established under Subsection (a).
3939 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
