| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | |
| 13 | 13 | by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | Sec. 180.011. GOVERNING BODY OF TAXING AUTHORITY MUST BE | |
| 15 | 15 | ELECTED. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, the governing body of | |
| 16 | 16 | any governmental entity, including a political subdivision, with | |
| 17 | 17 | the authority to impose a tax must be elected. | |
| 18 | 18 | (b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a member of a governing | |
| 19 | 19 | body appointed by the governor. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
