The bill would expand the scope of the Rural Sheriff's Office Salary Assistance Grant Program to provide an additional grant award of $650,000 to a county with a population of 300,000 or more and 400,000 or less.The bill would expand the scope of the Rural Prosecutor's Office Salary Assistance Grant Program to provide an additional grant award of $375,000 to a county with a population of 300,000 or more and 400,000 or less.According to the office of the Comptroller, using data from the federal 2020 decennial census, this bill would expand the Rural Sheriff's Office and Rural Prosecutor's Office salary assistance grants to five additional counties. This would increase the potential applicant pool by five for the Rural Sheriff's Office Salary Assistance Grant Program. However, it is unknown how many additional prosecuting offices would be eligible under the bill's provisions for the Rural Prosecutor's Office Salary Assistance Grant Program. There would be an additional cost to the state depending on the additional number of offices that would become eligible and apply for grant funding.
