9 | 10 | | the rural sheriff's office salary assistance grant program and the |

10 | 11 | | rural prosecutor's office salary assistance grant program. |

11 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 130.911(a)(2), Local Government Code, is |
---|
13 | 14 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
14 | 15 | | (2) "Qualified county" means a county with a |
---|
15 | 16 | | population of 400,000 [300,000] or less. |
---|
16 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Section 130.911(d), Local Government Code, is |
---|
17 | 18 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
18 | 19 | | (d) The comptroller shall award a grant to a qualified |
---|
19 | 20 | | county that applies for the grant using money appropriated to the |
---|
20 | 21 | | comptroller for that purpose. The grant must be in the following |
---|
21 | 22 | | applicable amount: |
---|
22 | 23 | | (1) $250,000 if the county has a population of less |
---|
23 | 24 | | than 10,000; |
---|
24 | 25 | | (2) $350,000 if the county has a population of 10,000 |
---|
25 | 26 | | or more and less than 50,000; [or] |
---|
26 | 27 | | (3) $500,000 if the county has a population of 50,000 |
---|
27 | 28 | | or more and less than 300,000; or |
---|
28 | 29 | | (4) $650,000 if the county has a population of 300,000 |
---|
29 | 30 | | or more and 400,000 or less. |

30 | 31 | | SECTION 3. Section 130.913(a)(2), Local Government Code, is |
---|
31 | 32 | | amended to read as follows: |

32 | 33 | | (2) "Qualified prosecutor's office" means, in a |
---|
33 | 34 | | jurisdiction with a population of 400,000 [300,000] or less, the |
---|
34 | 35 | | office of a district attorney, criminal district attorney, or |
---|
35 | 36 | | county attorney with criminal prosecution duties. |

36 | 37 | | SECTION 4. Section 130.913(d), Local Government Code, is |
---|
37 | 38 | | amended to read as follows: |

38 | 39 | | (d) The comptroller shall award a grant to a qualified |
---|
39 | 40 | | prosecutor's office that applies for the grant using money |
---|
40 | 41 | | appropriated to the comptroller for that purpose. The grant must be |
---|
41 | 42 | | in the following applicable amount: |
---|
42 | 43 | | (1) $100,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction |
---|
43 | 44 | | has a population of less than 10,000; |
---|
44 | 45 | | (2) $175,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction |
---|
45 | 46 | | has a population of 10,000 or more and less than 50,000; [or] |
---|
46 | 47 | | (3) $275,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction |
---|
47 | 48 | | has a population of 50,000 or more and less than 300,000; or |
---|
48 | 49 | | (4) $375,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction |
---|
49 | 50 | | has a population of 300,000 or more and 400,000 or less. |
---|
50 | 51 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
51 | 52 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
52 | 53 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
53 | 54 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
54 | 55 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
