78 AN ACT
89 relating to the eligibility of certain counties to participate in
910 the rural sheriff's office salary assistance grant program and the
1011 rural prosecutor's office salary assistance grant program.
1112 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1213 SECTION 1. Section 130.911(a)(2), Local Government Code, is
1314 amended to read as follows:
1415 (2) "Qualified county" means a county with a
1516 population of 400,000 [300,000] or less.
1617 SECTION 2. Section 130.911(d), Local Government Code, is
1718 amended to read as follows:
1819 (d) The comptroller shall award a grant to a qualified
1920 county that applies for the grant using money appropriated to the
2021 comptroller for that purpose. The grant must be in the following
2122 applicable amount:
2223 (1) $250,000 if the county has a population of less
2324 than 10,000;
2425 (2) $350,000 if the county has a population of 10,000
2526 or more and less than 50,000; [or]
2627 (3) $500,000 if the county has a population of 50,000
2728 or more and less than 300,000; or
2829 (4) $650,000 if the county has a population of 300,000
2930 or more and 400,000 or less.
3031 SECTION 3. Section 130.913(a)(2), Local Government Code, is
3132 amended to read as follows:
3233 (2) "Qualified prosecutor's office" means, in a
3334 jurisdiction with a population of 400,000 [300,000] or less, the
3435 office of a district attorney, criminal district attorney, or
3536 county attorney with criminal prosecution duties.
3637 SECTION 4. Section 130.913(d), Local Government Code, is
3738 amended to read as follows:
3839 (d) The comptroller shall award a grant to a qualified
3940 prosecutor's office that applies for the grant using money
4041 appropriated to the comptroller for that purpose. The grant must be
4142 in the following applicable amount:
4243 (1) $100,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction
4344 has a population of less than 10,000;
4445 (2) $175,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction
4546 has a population of 10,000 or more and less than 50,000; [or]
4647 (3) $275,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction
4748 has a population of 50,000 or more and less than 300,000; or
4849 (4) $375,000 if the prosecutor's office's jurisdiction
4950 has a population of 300,000 or more and 400,000 or less.
5051 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
5152 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
5253 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
5354 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
5455 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
