| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 51.306 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 51.306. AWARD OF UNDERGRADUATE FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | CREDIT FOR DUAL CREDIT COMPUTER SCIENCE COURSE. (a) In this |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | section, "institution of higher education" has the meaning assigned |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by Section 61.003. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) An institution of higher education shall award to an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | undergraduate student enrolled in the institution undergraduate |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | course credit toward satisfaction of a foreign language course |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | requirement of the institution for the student's successful |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | completion of a dual credit course in computer science. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (c) This section does not apply if the student's major is in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a foreign language. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. Section 51.306, Education Code, as added by this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act, applies beginning with students initially enrolling in an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | undergraduate program at a public institution for the 2025-2026 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | academic year. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
