13 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 11, Tax Code, is amended by |
---|
15 | 15 | | adding Section 11.39 to read as follows: |
---|
16 | 16 | | Sec. 11.39. SURPLUS REAL PROPERTY PURCHASED FROM EL PASO |
---|
17 | 17 | | INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT. The governing body of a taxing unit by |
---|
18 | 18 | | official action of the governing body adopted in the manner |
---|
19 | 19 | | required by law for official actions may exempt from taxation for a |
---|
20 | 20 | | period of 10 years the total appraised value of surplus real |
---|
21 | 21 | | property a person purchases from the El Paso Independent School |
---|
22 | 22 | | District. |
---|
23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies only to ad valorem taxes imposed |
---|
24 | 24 | | for a tax year beginning on or after the effective date of this Act. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2026, but only |
---|
26 | 26 | | if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 89th Legislature, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Regular Session, 2025, to authorize the legislature to provide for |
---|
28 | 28 | | a temporary local option exemption from ad valorem taxation by a |
---|
29 | 29 | | political subdivision of the total market value of surplus real |
---|
30 | 30 | | property a person purchases from a school district is approved by |
---|
31 | 31 | | the voters. If that amendment is not approved by the voters, this |
---|
32 | 32 | | Act has no effect. |
