46 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
57 AN ACT
68 relating to certain requirements regarding the subsidized
79 child-care program administered by the Texas Workforce Commission.
810 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
911 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 302, Labor Code, is
1012 amended by adding Section 302.0048 to read as follows:
1113 Sec. 302.0048. SUBSIDIZED CHILD-CARE PROGRAM; RULES. (a)
1214 For the purposes of determining an individual's eligibility for
1315 subsidized child care, the commission:
1416 (1) shall include the following courses or programs as
1517 approved educational programs and job training:
1618 (A) general educational development (GED) test
1719 preparation courses or programs;
1820 (B) adult education programs provided under the
1921 adult high school charter school program under Subchapter G,
2022 Chapter 12, Education Code;
2123 (C) English as a second language (ESL) courses or
2224 programs;
2325 (D) job training programs; and
2426 (E) any other courses or programs at an
2527 accredited postsecondary educational institution, including a
2628 public or private junior college, a public or private institution
2729 of higher education, or a public or private technical institution
2830 or at a career school or college as defined by Section 132.001,
2931 Education Code, regardless of whether the individual earns academic
3032 credit for the course or program; and
3133 (2) may not require an individual who is a member of a
3234 single-parent household to complete more than 20 hours of combined
3335 work and attendance at a job training or educational program each
3436 week.
3537 (b) The commission may adopt rules necessary to administer
3638 this section.
3739 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
