| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 32.201(c), Family Code, is amended to | |
| 13 | 13 | read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (c) Shelter or care provided under this section may not be | |
| 15 | 15 | provided after the 30th [15th] day after the date the shelter or | |
| 16 | 16 | care is commenced unless: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) the facility receives consent to continue services | |
| 18 | 18 | from the minor in accordance with Section 32.202; or | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) the minor has qualified for financial assistance | |
| 20 | 20 | under Chapter 31, Human Resources Code, and is on the waiting list | |
| 21 | 21 | for housing assistance. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to | |
| 23 | 23 | emergency shelter or care provided to a minor by an emergency | |
| 24 | 24 | shelter facility on or after the effective date of this Act, | |
| 25 | 25 | regardless of whether the shelter or care commenced before, on, or | |
| 26 | 26 | after that date. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 28 | 28 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 29 | 29 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 30 | 30 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 31 | 31 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
