12 | 12 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Section 752.053(c), Government Code, is amended | |
14 | 14 | to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | (c) Notwithstanding Subsection (b)(3), a local entity or | |
16 | 16 | campus police department may prohibit persons who are employed by | |
17 | 17 | or otherwise under the direction or control of the entity or | |
18 | 18 | department from assisting or cooperating with a federal immigration | |
19 | 19 | officer in matters regarding activities that occur: | |
20 | 20 | (1) [if the assistance or cooperation occurs] at a | |
21 | 21 | place of worship; or | |
22 | 22 | (2) at a domestic violence shelter. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
26 | 26 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
27 | 27 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
