11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Chapter 185, Health and Safety Code, is amended | |
13 | 13 | by adding Section 185.004 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 185.004. REQUIRED NOTICE OF DEBT COLLECTION. A health | |
15 | 15 | care provider that intends to pursue debt collection for a health | |
16 | 16 | care service or supply provided to a patient shall provide written | |
17 | 17 | notice to the patient at least 60 days before the date the provider | |
18 | 18 | initiates debt collection. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 185.004, Health and Safety Code, as | |
20 | 20 | added by this Act, applies only to debt collection initiated on or | |
21 | 21 | after the effective date of this Act. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
