77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to certain requirements regarding the subsidized
1010 child-care program administered by the Texas Workforce Commission.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 302, Labor Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 302.0048 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 302.0048. SUBSIDIZED CHILD-CARE PROGRAM; RULES. (a)
1515 For the purposes of determining an individual's eligibility for
1616 subsidized child care, the commission shall include the following
1717 courses or programs as approved educational programs and job
1818 training:
1919 (1) general educational development (GED) test
2020 preparation courses or programs;
2121 (2) adult education programs provided under the adult
2222 high school charter school program under Subchapter G, Chapter 12,
2323 Education Code;
2424 (3) English as a second language (ESL) courses or
2525 programs;
2626 (4) job training programs; and
2727 (5) any other courses or programs at an accredited
2828 postsecondary educational institution, including a public or
2929 private junior college, a public or private institution of higher
3030 education, or a public or private technical institution or at a
3131 career school or college as defined by Section 132.001, Education
3232 Code, regardless of whether the individual earns academic credit
3333 for the course or program.
3434 (b) The commission may adopt rules necessary to administer
3535 this section.
3636 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
