88 AN ACT
99 relating to campaign contribution limits for certain offices.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS. A
1414 person may not knowingly make or authorize the making of a campaign
1515 contribution to a candidate for statewide office or the
1616 legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the
1717 candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, in an amount that
1818 exceeds $10,000 for the election in which the candidate is
1919 involved.
2020 SECTION 2. Section 253.157(a-1), Election Code, is amended
2121 to read as follows:
2222 (a-1) A judicial candidate or officeholder may not
2323 knowingly accept political contributions from a general-purpose
2424 committee that, in the aggregate, exceed the contribution limits
2525 prescribed by this subsection in connection with an election in
2626 which the judicial candidate's name appears on the ballot. The
2727 contribution limits under this subsection are:
2828 (1) for a statewide judicial office, $10,000
2929 [$25,000]; or
3030 (2) for any other judicial office, $5,000.
3131 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
3232 a campaign contribution made on or after the effective date of this
3333 Act. A campaign contribution made before the effective date of this
3434 Act is governed by the law in effect when the contribution was made
3535 and is not aggregated with campaign contributions made on or after
3636 that date.
3737 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
