77 AN ACT
88 relating to campaign contribution limits for certain offices.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 253, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 253.008 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 253.008. LIMITATION ON CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS. A
1313 person may not knowingly make or authorize the making of a campaign
1414 contribution to a candidate for statewide office or the
1515 legislature, or to a specific-purpose committee supporting the
1616 candidate or opposing the candidate's opponent, in an amount that
1717 exceeds $999,999 for the election in which the candidate is
1818 involved.
1919 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
2020 a campaign contribution made on or after the effective date of this
2121 Act. A campaign contribution made before the effective date of this
2222 Act is governed by the law in effect when the contribution was made
2323 and is not aggregated with campaign contributions made on or after
2424 that date.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
