66 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
77 AN ACT
88 relating to the amount of an expenditure that is exempt from the
99 provisions of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 1001.053, Occupations Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 1001.053. PUBLIC WORKS. The following work is exempt
1414 from this chapter:
1515 (1) a public work that involves electrical or
1616 mechanical engineering, if the contemplated expense for the
1717 completed project is $8,000 or less;
1818 (2) a public work that does not involve electrical or
1919 mechanical engineering, if the contemplated expense for the
2020 completed project is $100,000 [$20,000] or less; or
2121 (3) road maintenance or improvement undertaken by the
2222 commissioners court of a county.
2323 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
2424 a public work project initiated on or after the effective date of
2525 this Act. A public work project initiated before the effective date
2626 of this Act is governed by the law as it existed immediately before
2727 the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect
2828 for that purpose.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
