66 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
77 AN ACT
88 relating to a classroom teacher's right to appeal to the
99 commissioner of education regarding the teacher's designation
1010 under a local optional teacher designation system.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 21.3521, Education Code, is amended by
1313 adding Subsection (f-1) to read as follows:
1414 (f-1) A classroom teacher may appeal to the commissioner if,
1515 based on the teacher's performance, the teacher believes that but
1616 for the school district's, open-enrollment charter school's, or
1717 agency's error the teacher would have earned a specific designation
1818 and the teacher:
1919 (1) fails to earn any designation; or
2020 (2) is issued a designation other than that
2121 designation.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
