77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the minimum continuing legal education requirements for
1010 an attorney serving as a state official appointed by the governor
1111 and confirmed by the senate.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 81.113(a), Government Code, is amended
1414 to read as follows:
1515 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), the state bar
1616 shall credit an attorney licensed in this state with meeting the
1717 minimum continuing legal education requirements of the state bar
1818 for a reporting year if during the reporting year the attorney is:
1919 (1) employed full-time as an attorney by:
2020 (A) [(1)] the senate;
2121 (B) [(2)] the house of representatives;
2222 (C) [(3)] a committee, division, department, or
2323 office of the senate or house;
2424 (D) [(4)] the Texas Legislative Council;
2525 (E) [(5)] the Legislative Budget Board;
2626 (F) [(6)] the Legislative Reference Library;
2727 (G) [(7)] the office of the state auditor; or
2828 (H) [(8)] the Sunset Advisory Commission; or
2929 (2) serving as a state official appointed by the
3030 governor and confirmed by the senate.
3131 SECTION 2. Section 81.113, Government Code, as amended by
3232 this Act, applies only to the minimum requirements for a continuing
3333 legal education compliance year that ends on or after September 1,
3434 2025. The minimum requirements for continuing legal education for
3535 a compliance year that ends before September 1, 2025, are covered by
3636 the law and rules in effect when the compliance year ended, and that
3737 law and those rules are continued in effect for that purpose.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
