9 | 9 | | relating to the minimum continuing legal education requirements for |

10 | 10 | | an attorney serving as a state official appointed by the governor |
---|
11 | 11 | | and confirmed by the senate. |
---|
12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 81.113(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
14 | 14 | | to read as follows: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), the state bar |
---|
16 | 16 | | shall credit an attorney licensed in this state with meeting the |
---|
17 | 17 | | minimum continuing legal education requirements of the state bar |
---|
18 | 18 | | for a reporting year if during the reporting year the attorney is: |
---|
19 | 19 | | (1) employed full-time as an attorney by: |
---|
20 | 20 | | (A) [(1)] the senate; |
---|
21 | 21 | | (B) [(2)] the house of representatives; |
---|
22 | 22 | | (C) [(3)] a committee, division, department, or |
---|
23 | 23 | | office of the senate or house; |
---|
24 | 24 | | (D) [(4)] the Texas Legislative Council; |
---|
25 | 25 | | (E) [(5)] the Legislative Budget Board; |
---|
26 | 26 | | (F) [(6)] the Legislative Reference Library; |
---|
27 | 27 | | (G) [(7)] the office of the state auditor; or |
---|
28 | 28 | | (H) [(8)] the Sunset Advisory Commission; or |
---|
29 | 29 | | (2) serving as a state official appointed by the |
---|
30 | 30 | | governor and confirmed by the senate. |

31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. Section 81.113, Government Code, as amended by |
---|
32 | 32 | | this Act, applies only to the minimum requirements for a continuing |
---|
33 | 33 | | legal education compliance year that ends on or after September 1, |
---|
34 | 34 | | 2025. The minimum requirements for continuing legal education for |
---|
35 | 35 | | a compliance year that ends before September 1, 2025, are covered by |
---|
36 | 36 | | the law and rules in effect when the compliance year ended, and that |
---|
37 | 37 | | law and those rules are continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
