| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or | |
| 13 | 13 | terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action | |
| 14 | 14 | against, a public employee who in good faith reports wasteful or | |
| 15 | 15 | fraudulent spending or a violation of law by the employing | |
| 16 | 16 | governmental entity, [or] another public employee, or an elected | |
| 17 | 17 | officer of the employing governmental entity to an appropriate law | |
| 18 | 18 | enforcement authority. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
