66 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
77 AN ACT
88 relating to fraud and waste.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or
1313 terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action
1414 against, a public employee who in good faith reports wasteful or
1515 fraudulent spending or a violation of law by the employing
1616 governmental entity, [or] another public employee, or an elected
1717 officer of the employing governmental entity to an appropriate law
1818 enforcement authority.
1919 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2020 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2121 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2222 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2323 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
