9 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 6.062, Tax Code, is amended by adding |
---|
11 | 13 | | subsection (a) and adding subsections (a-1), (d), and (e) to read as |
---|
12 | 14 | | follows: |
---|
13 | 15 | | Sec. 6.062. PUBLICATION OF BUDGET. (a) Not later than the |
---|
14 | 16 | | 10th day before the date of the public hearing at which the board of |
---|
15 | 17 | | directors considers the appraisal district budget, the chief |
---|
16 | 18 | | appraiser shall give notice of the public hearing by publishing the |
---|
17 | 19 | | notice in a newspaper having general circulation in the county for |
---|
18 | 20 | | which the appraisal district is established; and either: |
---|
19 | 21 | | (1) on the home page of the: |
---|
20 | 22 | | (A) county appraisal district’s Internet |
---|
21 | 23 | | website, if the county appraisal district maintains an Internet |
---|
22 | 24 | | website; or |
---|
23 | 25 | | (B) county’s Internet website, if the county |
---|
24 | 26 | | maintains an Internet website and the county appraisal district |
---|
25 | 27 | | does not maintain an Internet website; or |
---|
26 | 28 | | (2) on the official social media page for the: |
---|
27 | 29 | | (A) county appraisal district, if the county |
---|
28 | 30 | | appraisal district maintains an official social media page; or |
---|
29 | 31 | | (B) county, if the county maintains an official |
---|
30 | 32 | | social media page and the county appraisal district does not |
---|
31 | 33 | | maintain an official social media page. |
---|
32 | 34 | | (a-1) The notice published under Subdivision(a)(3) may not |
---|
33 | 35 | | be smaller than one-quarter page of a standard-size or tabloid-size |
---|
34 | 36 | | newspaper and may not be published in the part of the paper in which |
---|
35 | 37 | | legal notices and classified advertisements appear. |
---|
36 | 38 | | (d) The chief appraiser shall provide notice of any change |
---|
37 | 39 | | of the location of a public hearing for which notice is provided |
---|
38 | 40 | | under this section in the same manner as the notice required by |
---|
39 | 41 | | Subsection (a). The notice must be provided not later than the 5th |
---|
40 | 42 | | day before the date of the hearing. |
---|
41 | 43 | | (e) This subsection applies only to an appraisal district |
---|
42 | 44 | | established in a county with a population of less than 20,000. |
---|
43 | 45 | | Notwithstanding Subsections (a) and (d), a chief appraiser may |
---|
44 | 46 | | publish a notice required by Subsection (a) or (d) solely in an |
---|
45 | 47 | | online newspaper having general circulation in the county with |
---|
46 | 48 | | preference given to an online newspaper primarily owned or operated |
---|
47 | 49 | | by a print newspaper. |
---|
48 | 50 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
49 | 51 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
50 | 52 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
51 | 53 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
52 | 54 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
