8 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 442, Government Code, is amended by |
---|
10 | 12 | | adding Subchapter H to read as follows: |

11 | 13 | | SUBCHAPTER H. TEXAS PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY PROMOTION PROGRAM AND |

12 | 14 | | FUND |
---|
13 | 15 | | Sec. 442.301. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter: |
---|
14 | 16 | | (1) "Fund" means the Texas presidential library |
---|
15 | 17 | | promotion fund. |
---|
16 | 18 | | (2) "Commission" means the Texas Historical |
---|
17 | 19 | | Commission. |
---|
18 | 20 | | (2) "Program" means the Texas presidential library |
---|
19 | 21 | | promotion program, administered by the Commission. |
---|
20 | 22 | | Sec. 481.702. TEXAS PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY PROMOTION |
---|
21 | 23 | | PROGRAM. (a) The Commission shall establish the Texas |
---|
22 | 24 | | presidential library promotion program to: |
---|
23 | 25 | | (1) recognize that the presidential libraries in this |
---|
24 | 26 | | state are vital historical and educational resources that attract |
---|
25 | 27 | | visitors from across the country and contribute to this state's |
---|
26 | 28 | | cultural and economic landscape; and |
---|
27 | 29 | | (2) provide funding and support to the presidential |
---|
28 | 30 | | libraries, promote tourism, and educate the public on the |
---|
29 | 31 | | contributions of the presidents from this state. |
---|
30 | 32 | | (b) The program is established to support the following |
---|
31 | 33 | | presidential libraries in this state: |
---|
32 | 34 | | (1) The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum; |
---|
33 | 35 | | (2) The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; |
---|
34 | 36 | | and |
---|
35 | 37 | | (3) The George W. Bush Presidential Library and |
---|
36 | 38 | | Museum. |
---|
37 | 39 | | (c) The program shall: |
---|
38 | 40 | | (1) provide financial support to the presidential |
---|
39 | 41 | | libraries for the renovation and enhancement of permanent exhibits; |
---|
40 | 42 | | (2) market and promote the presidential libraries to |
---|
41 | 43 | | increase tourism to and public awareness of the libraries; and |
---|
42 | 44 | | (3) in collaboration with the presidential libraries, |
---|
43 | 45 | | develop a mobile exhibit to be displayed in communities, schools, |
---|
44 | 46 | | and other public institutions that: |
---|
45 | 47 | | (A) features for each president significant |
---|
46 | 48 | | artifacts, multimedia presentations, and educational materials; |
---|
47 | 49 | | and |
---|
48 | 50 | | (B) highlights the historical impact and |
---|
49 | 51 | | legacies of President Lyndon B. Johnson, President George H. W. |
---|
50 | 52 | | Bush, and President George W. Bush. |
---|
51 | 53 | | (d) The Commission may enter into a contract with a |
---|
52 | 54 | | nonprofit entity for the nonprofit entity to administer and operate |
---|
53 | 55 | | the program. |
---|
54 | 56 | | Sec. 442.302. TEXAS PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY PROMOTION FUND. |
---|
55 | 57 | | (a) The Texas presidential library promotion fund is a dedicated |
---|
56 | 58 | | account in the general revenue fund. |
---|
57 | 59 | | (b) The following amounts shall be deposited in the fund: |
---|
58 | 60 | | (1) money appropriated by the legislature to the fund |
---|
59 | 61 | | for the purposes described by this subchapter; |
---|
60 | 62 | | (2) interest earned on the investment of money in the |
---|
61 | 63 | | fund; and |
---|
62 | 64 | | (3) gifts, grants, and other donations received for |
---|
63 | 65 | | the fund. |
---|
64 | 66 | | (c) Money in the fund may be spent for a purpose described by |
---|
65 | 67 | | this subchapter. |
---|
66 | 68 | | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
---|
67 | 69 | | of this Act, the Commission shall establish the Texas presidential |
---|
68 | 70 | | library promotion program as required by Section 442.301, |
---|
69 | 71 | | Government Code, as added by this Act. |
---|
70 | 72 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
