| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 161.0591(a), Local Government Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | (a) The position of chair is selected from the commission | |
| 14 | 14 | members by a majority vote of the commission members. The chair | |
| 15 | 15 | serves a one-year term [of six months]. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Section 161.0591, Local Government Code, as | |
| 17 | 17 | amended by this Act, applies only to the term of the chair of a | |
| 18 | 18 | county ethics commission selected on or after the effective date of | |
| 19 | 19 | this Act. The term of the chair of a county ethics commission | |
| 20 | 20 | selected before the effective date of this Act is governed by the | |
| 21 | 21 | law in effect on the date the selection was made, and the former law | |
| 22 | 22 | is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
