| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 25.1102(a), Government Code, is amended | |
| 13 | 13 | to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (a) In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section | |
| 15 | 15 | 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Hidalgo County has | |
| 16 | 16 | the [concurrent] jurisdiction provided by the constitution and | |
| 17 | 17 | general law for [with the] district courts [court] in: | |
| 18 | 18 | (1) family law cases and proceedings; and | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) civil cases regardless of the amount [in which the | |
| 20 | 20 | matter] in controversy [does not exceed $750,000, excluding | |
| 21 | 21 | interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, and | |
| 22 | 22 | attorney's fees and costs, as alleged on the page of the petition]. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 24 | 24 | to a cause of action filed on or after the effective date of this | |
| 25 | 25 | Act. A cause of action filed before that date is governed by the law | |
| 26 | 26 | in effect immediately before that date, and that law is continued in | |
| 27 | 27 | effect for that purpose. | |
| 28 | 28 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
