11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 33, Education Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 33.914 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 33.914. HALAL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH OPTION. (a) In this | |
15 | 15 | section, "halal" has the meaning assigned by Section 17.881, | |
16 | 16 | Business & Commerce Code. | |
17 | 17 | (b) On request by a student or the parent or person standing | |
18 | 18 | in parental relation to the student, a school district or | |
19 | 19 | open-enrollment charter school shall provide a halal option to the | |
20 | 20 | student for any breakfast or lunch program provided by the district | |
21 | 21 | or school. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
23 | 23 | school year. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
25 | 25 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
26 | 26 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
