77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to advanced placement courses that may be offered by a
1010 school district.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1313 amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 28.0091. ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE STANDARDS. (a) A
1515 school district may offer an advanced placement course only if the
1616 course complies with:
1717 (1) the school laws of this state; and
1818 (2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the
1919 State Board of Education for the applicable subject area.
2020 (b) The State Board of Education shall review each advanced
2121 placement course offered by a school district to ensure compliance
2222 with this section.
2323 SECTION 2. Section 28.023, Education Code, is amended by
2424 adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
2525 (a-1) For purposes of this section, a board of trustees may
2626 approve only an advanced placement examination that is for an
2727 advanced placement course offered in accordance with Section
2828 28.0091.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026
3030 school year.
3131 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3232 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3333 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3434 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3535 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
