88 AN ACT
99 relating to the removal of certain restrictions imposed on driver's
1010 licenses; authorizing a fee.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 521.221, Transportation Code, is amended
1313 by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1414 (e) The department:
1515 (1) shall remove a restriction that requires the
1616 license holder to wear corrective lenses for vision and mail to the
1717 license holder a new driver's license that does not include the
1818 restriction if the license holder submits to the department:
1919 (A) a written statement from a licensed physician
2020 or optometrist verifying that the license holder's vision has been
2121 surgically corrected and the license holder no longer requires
2222 corrective lenses for vision; and
2323 (B) the required fee;
2424 (2) shall establish a process by which a person may
2525 submit to the department electronically or by mail the form and fee
2626 described by Subdivision (1); and
2727 (3) may not mail a new driver's license under this
2828 subsection to a person whose driver's license record indicates that
2929 the person is subject to the registration requirements of Chapter
3030 62, Code of Criminal Procedure.
3131 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
