11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 48.105(b), Education Code, is amended to | |
13 | 13 | read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (b) At least 55 percent of the funds allocated under this | |
15 | 15 | section must be used in providing bilingual education or special | |
16 | 16 | language programs under Subchapter B, Chapter 29. A district's | |
17 | 17 | bilingual education or special language allocation may be used only | |
18 | 18 | for program and student evaluation, instructional materials and | |
19 | 19 | equipment, staff development, supplemental staff expenses, | |
20 | 20 | salaries [salary supplements] for teachers, incremental costs | |
21 | 21 | associated with providing smaller class sizes, and other supplies | |
22 | 22 | required for quality instruction. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | |
24 | 24 | school year. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
26 | 26 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
27 | 27 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
28 | 28 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
29 | 29 | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
