11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, | |
13 | 13 | is amended by adding Section 201.626 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 201.626. KEEP 'EM SAFE TEXAS GUN STORAGE CAMPAIGN. (a) | |
15 | 15 | The department, in consultation with the Department of Public | |
16 | 16 | Safety, shall establish and implement a plan for providing relevant | |
17 | 17 | information to the public regarding the safe storage of firearms | |
18 | 18 | for the Department of Public Safety's Keep 'Em Safe Texas Gun | |
19 | 19 | Storage Campaign using an existing system of dynamic message signs | |
20 | 20 | located across the state. | |
21 | 21 | (b) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), the department is not | |
22 | 22 | required to use any existing system of dynamic message signs to | |
23 | 23 | provide the information described by Subsection (a) if the | |
24 | 24 | department receives notice from the United States Department of | |
25 | 25 | Transportation Federal Highway Administration that the use of the | |
26 | 26 | signs would result in the loss of federal highway funding or other | |
27 | 27 | punitive actions taken against this state due to noncompliance with | |
28 | 28 | federal laws, regulations, or policies. | |
29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
