77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for
1010 certification in marketing education and certification in health
1111 science technology education.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1414 amended by adding Section 21.0445 to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 21.0445. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING
1616 EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
1717 CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this
1818 subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs
1919 for:
2020 (1) a person seeking a certification to teach courses
2121 in marketing; and
2222 (2) a person seeking a certification to teach courses
2323 in health science technology.
2424 (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs
2525 under this section, the board shall ensure that:
2626 (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of
2727 coursework or training; and
2828 (2) persons certified under the programs may not be
2929 issued additional certifications based on the person's performance
3030 on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048.
3131 SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall
3232 propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and
3333 renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for
3434 certification in marketing education and certification in health
3535 science technology education.
3636 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3737 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3838 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3939 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4040 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
