77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the designation of Celebration of Life Day as a state
1010 holiday.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 1.006(f)(2), Election Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (2) "State holiday" means a state holiday under
1515 Sections 662.003(b)(1) through (7) [(6)], Government Code.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1717 to read as follows:
1818 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1919 (1) the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes Day,"
2020 in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederate
2121 heroes;
2222 (2) the second day of March, "Texas Independence Day";
2323 (3) the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
2424 (4) the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas,"
2525 in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2626 (5) the 24th day of June, "Celebration of Life Day";
2727 (6) [(5)] the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines
2828 Johnson Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines
2929 Johnson;
3030 (7) [(6)] the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
3131 (8) [(7)] the 24th day of December; and
3232 (9) [(8)] the 26th day of December.
3333 SECTION 3. Section 662.021, Government Code, is amended to
3434 read as follows:
3535 Sec. 662.021. DATES OF HOLIDAYS. A legal holiday includes
3636 only the following days:
3737 (1) a national holiday under Section 662.003(a); and
3838 (2) a state holiday under Sections 662.003(b)(1)
3939 through (7) [(6)].
4040 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
