77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986
99 created a no-fault procedure called the National Vaccine Injury
1010 Compensation Program to help protect vaccine manufacturers from
1111 lawsuits asserting that injuries and deaths were caused by
1212 vaccinations; and
1313 WHEREAS, With the implementation of the law, the Vaccine
1414 Adverse Event Reporting System was introduced, enabling consumers
1515 and health care practitioners to report side effects that occurred
1616 after vaccine administration; and
1717 WHEREAS, Through February 2025, approximately $5.3 billion
1818 has been paid out to victims of vaccine injury through the National
1919 Vaccine Injury Compensation Program; and
2020 WHEREAS, According to a study conducted by Harvard Pilgrim
2121 Health Care, less than one percent of vaccine adverse events are
2222 reported to the Food and Drug Administration, allowing for many
2323 cases to go undocumented and unacknowledged; and
2424 WHEREAS, Injuries caused by vaccines inflict a significant
2525 physical and emotional toll on individuals and their loved ones,
2626 and the residents of Texas can benefit from learning more about this
2727 important health care issue; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby designate June 3 as Vaccine Injury Awareness Day; and, be it
3030 further
3131 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3232 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3333 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3434 passed by the legislature.
