66 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
77 WHEREAS, Combes, Texas, is a small but vibrant community
88 situated on Business U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 107,
99 bordering Harlingen in northwestern Cameron County, and the town's
1010 historical and agricultural roots are deep and intertwined with the
1111 land; and
1212 WHEREAS, The town was originally established as the
1313 headquarters for the Combes Ranch, founded by Charles B. Combes, a
1414 settler from Kentucky, and it has evolved from a modest rural
1515 settlement into a thriving community with a population of over
1616 2,500 residents; and
1717 WHEREAS, The region surrounding Combes has long been known
1818 for its agricultural richness, and beekeeping has played a
1919 significant role in the area's economy and ecosystem, helping to
2020 sustain the local agricultural industry through vital pollination
2121 services; and
2222 WHEREAS, In recent years, Combes has embraced its role as a
2323 center for beekeeping, with local businesses and residents
2424 supporting the growing interest in apiaries, honey production, and
2525 pollinator conservation; the town has garnered attention as a hub
2626 for beekeeping in the Rio Grande Valley, with local efforts to
2727 relocate and protect bees, contributing to both environmental
2828 sustainability and the local economy; and
2929 WHEREAS, The presence of beekeeping operations and the active
3030 preservation of bees has not only elevated Combes' agricultural
3131 prominence but also fostered a growing cultural appreciation for
3232 the important role bees play in our environment and food systems;
3333 and
3434 WHEREAS, The people of Combes have come to take immense pride
3535 in their town's role as a leading center for beekeeping and honey
3636 production, with the town's history, culture, and future closely
3737 tied to these industrious pollinators; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3939 hereby designate Combes as the official "Bee Capital of Texas";
4040 and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
4242 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
4343 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4444 passed by the legislature.
