| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Donate Life Texas Day is taking place on |

| 9 | 9 | | April 29, 2025, during National Donate Life Month, to raise |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | awareness of the crucial need for organ, eye, and tissue donors; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, At any given time, more than 100,000 men, women, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | children are on the national transplant waiting list, with an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | estimated 10,000 residing in Texas; there are more Americans |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | awaiting lifesaving organ transplants than there are available |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | donors, and tragically, 17 people pass away every day before a match |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | can be found; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Over 90 percent of U.S. adults support organ |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | donation, but only approximately 60 percent of eligible Texans are |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | currently signed up to be donors; just one donor can save as many as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | eight lives, and corneal and tissue transplants from a single |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | individual can help many more patients enjoy better health; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Donate Life America and its partnering |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | organizations established National Donate Life Month in 2003; each |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | April, groups and communities across the United States participate |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in activities to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | tissue donors and to celebrate those who have given the gift of life |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as donors; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, By promoting organ donation and donor registration, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | we can provide hope to countless Americans for longer, healthier |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | lives, and this worthy cause is one that deserves the earnest |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | support of every Texan; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | hereby recognize April 29, 2025, as Donate Life Texas Day and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | commend all those who are working to promote organ, eye, and tissue |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | donation in Texas. |
