| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Situated in Lubbock County on the High Plains of |

| 10 | 10 | | engagement and cultural celebration dating back to its founding, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and in recent years, that tradition has been reflected in the city's |

| 12 | 12 | | popular Banana Pudding Festival; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Slaton Bakery, an iconic West Texas business |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | that has been in operation for more than 100 years, originated the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | idea for the Banana Pudding Festival; the get-together was first |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | staged in 2023, and it has quickly become a signature event for the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | city; each year, the bakery oversees the festival with the support |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of various local organizations and businesses, including the Slaton |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Chamber of Commerce, the Slaton Lions Club, the Slaton Harvey |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | House, and many more; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Held on Labor Day weekend, the Banana Pudding |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Festival brings together residents and visitors alike to celebrate |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | this classic Southern treat; attendees have the opportunity to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | sample a variety of pudding recipes while also enjoying live |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | entertainment, arts and crafts, and the warm, neighborly atmosphere |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | that is a hallmark of the city; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The success of the Banana Pudding Festival has |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | helped elevate Slaton's reputation as a cultural hub and a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | destination for dessert lovers, and the gathering draws enthusiasts |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | from across Texas and beyond; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Banana Pudding Festival serves as a cheerful |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | salute to Slaton's deep culinary roots, its thriving community |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | spirit, and the longstanding legacy of the Slaton Bakery, and it is |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | fitting that this beloved event be appropriately recognized; now, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | hereby designate Slaton as the official Banana Pudding Capital of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Texas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | passed by the legislature. |
