77 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
88 WHEREAS, The city of Fort Worth has evolved into a prominent
99 center for the aviation and defense sectors, attracting major
1010 corporations, manufacturing facilities, and a skilled workforce
1111 that continues to drive innovation and economic growth in these
1212 industries; and
1313 WHEREAS, Fort Worth's connection to the military dates to its
1414 establishment as a frontier outpost in 1849; later, as the United
1515 States mobilized for World War I, the city served as the home of
1616 Camp Bowie, which trained 100,000 soldiers in the U.S. Army's 36th
1717 Infantry Division; during World War II, the construction of the
1818 B-24 and B-32 bombers in Fort Worth and the development of Carswell
1919 Air Force Base solidified the city's longstanding partnership with
2020 the U.S. armed forces, which continues to this day; and
2121 WHEREAS, Beginning in the 1970s, Fort Worth became a
2222 manufacturing location for the F-16, one of the world's most widely
2323 used fighter jets; today, the city remains at the forefront of
2424 aerospace innovation as the assembly site of the F-35 Lightning II,
2525 the most advanced fifth-generation fighter jet in the world, which
2626 is produced by Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics; in
2727 March 2025, it was announced that the global F-35 fleet had
2828 surpassed one million total flight hours; and
2929 WHEREAS, In 1951, Bell Textron, Inc., opened in Fort Worth
3030 the first factory in the world specifically designed to manufacture
3131 helicopters, and in 2018, the location was designated a Vertical
3232 Flight Heritage Site by the Vertical Flight Society; the company
3333 has produced and delivered more than 35,000 Bell rotorcraft, and it
3434 is slated to expand its Fort Worth operations by opening a new
3535 advanced manufacturing facility for the U.S. Army's Future Long
3636 Range Assault Aircraft; this state-of-the-art tiltrotor is
3737 designed to fly two times farther and faster than the current fleet;
3838 and
3939 WHEREAS, Since 1974, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport
4040 has served Fort Worth, the North Texas region, and the State of
4141 Texas as a gateway to destinations around the globe; it has grown
4242 into one of the busiest airports in the world and welcomes more than
4343 86 million travelers a year and generates over $37 billion in annual
4444 economic impact; and
4545 WHEREAS, American Airlines relocated its corporate
4646 headquarters to Fort Worth in 1979, and the carrier now maintains a
4747 workforce of more than 36,000 in North Texas and operates thousands
4848 of flights per day to more than 350 destinations in over 60
4949 countries; and
5050 WHEREAS, Fort Worth has played an integral part in advancing
5151 America's leadership in military capability and aerospace
5252 technology, and these contributions have brought profound benefits
5353 to our state and nation; now, therefore, be it
5454 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
5555 hereby designate Fort Worth as the official Aviation and Defense
5656 Capital of Texas; and, be it further
5757 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
5858 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
5959 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
6060 passed by the legislature.
