10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Shannon joined the Petroleum Museum as director |

11 | 12 | | of education in 1995, and in that role, she oversaw the addition of |

12 | 13 | | the organization's transportation wing, which uses Chaparral race |

13 | 14 | | cars to educate visitors on the scientific principles of |
---|
14 | 15 | | aerodynamics and physics; in November 2004, she assumed her |
---|
15 | 16 | | position as executive director; over the course of a tenure |
---|
16 | 17 | | spanning nearly two decades, the museum opened an educational hall |
---|
17 | 18 | | and a mineral gallery highlighting mineral specimens from across |
---|
18 | 19 | | the globe, underwent an $18 million renovation of its petroleum |
---|
19 | 20 | | exhibits, and launched its state-of-the-art STEAM education |
---|
20 | 21 | | center; and |

21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Shannon has contributed to her |

22 | 23 | | profession as board president of the Texas Association of Museums |

23 | 24 | | from 2011 to 2012 and as a member of the Permian Basin Museum |

24 | 25 | | Association; in 2016, she was presented with the TAM President's |

25 | 26 | | Award; and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Shannon has also given back to the greater |

27 | 28 | | community by serving on the board of the Trinity School of Midland |

28 | 29 | | and by collaborating with the Texas Education Agency on revising |

29 | 30 | | the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills test through the Texas |
---|
30 | 31 | | Energy Council; and |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The Petroleum Museum has benefited immeasurably |

32 | 33 | | from Kathy Shannon's leadership and her unwavering commitment to |

33 | 34 | | the institution's mission, and she may indeed reflect with pride on |

34 | 35 | | all that she has accomplished; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |

36 | 37 | | hereby congratulate Kathy Shannon on her retirement from the |
