7+ CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
78 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on May 24,
89 2024, with the passing of Frank Ferrell Davis of Midland at the age
910 of 80; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of Mary Frank and Paul Davis, Ferrell
1112 "Chivo" Davis was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 12,
1213 1944, and he grew up with the companionship of a brother, Paul;
1314 after graduating from Midland High School, he attended The
1415 University of Texas at Austin and then went on to earn his
1516 bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University; he
1617 subsequently answered his nation's call to duty, and following his
1718 military service, he began his professional career in 1967 with
1819 Shell USA, Inc.; after working for various independent oil and gas
1920 companies, he founded Davis Partners, Ltd., in 1978, and he oversaw
2021 the business's growth over the succeeding decades; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis also had a passion for ranching, and he
2223 managed a successful cow/calf and meat goat operation in Bandera
2324 County, earning a Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture award from
2425 the Texas County Agriculture Agents Association in 2001; engaged in
2526 his community, he served as a board member of the Midland Children's
2627 Rehabilitation Center, Manor Park, Inc., Bynum School, and Texas
2728 Commerce Bank-Midland, and he was an active congregant of First
2829 Methodist Midland; and
2930 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Davis was blessed with the
3031 love and support of his wife of 57 years, Polly; he took great pride
3132 in their twin daughters, Jennifer and Shelley, and his treasured
3233 family grew to include six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter;
3334 during his leisure hours, he enjoyed entertaining neighbors and
3435 friends and spending time with his many dogs; and
3536 WHEREAS, Although Ferrell Davis is deeply missed, memories of
3637 his enthusiasm for life, his strength of character, and his
3738 devotion to his family remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves
3839 behind; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
4041 hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank Ferrell Davis and extend
4142 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Polly
4243 Chappell Davis; to his daughters, Jennifer Davis Hord and her
4344 husband, Willis, and Shelley Davis Harper and her husband, Jack; to
4445 his grandchildren, Lauren Ferrell Harper, Davis Lee Hord and his
4546 wife, Margaret, Ellen Claire Hord, Hunt Daniel Hord, Caroline
4647 Bryant Harper, and Olivia Chappell Harper; to his great-grandchild,
4748 Frances Fox Hord; to his brother, Paul L. Davis Jr., and his wife,
4849 Betty Rae; to his sister-in-law, Carolyn Chappell Light, and her
4950 husband, David; to his brother-in-law, David Scott Miles; and to
5051 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5152 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5253 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5354 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5455 Ferrell Davis.
