78 WHEREAS, The Junior League of Midland is celebrating 75 years
89 of service to the community in 2024; and
910 WHEREAS, Originally known as the Midland Service League, the
1011 Junior League of Midland was founded in 1949 with the mission to
1112 advance women's leadership through volunteer action,
1213 collaboration, and training; in 1964, it was officially admitted as
1314 the 195th league in the Association of Junior Leagues, and over the
1415 years, it has amassed an impressive record of community service and
1516 supported countless individuals and families in need; today, the
1617 organization counts nearly 600 members who annually donate more
1718 than 16,000 hours of service; and
1819 WHEREAS, Among its many initiatives, the Junior League offers
1920 an after-school reading program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the
2021 Permian Basin in Midland, and it holds weekly workshops as part of
2122 its Suits with Skills project, which provides job-skills mentoring
2223 for female survivors of domestic abuse; in 2017, the organization
2324 partnered with Communities in Schools of the Permian Basin to
2425 create IMPACT yearlong mentoring programming for local at-risk
2526 students; moreover, the group's most recent endeavor, Pink Pantry,
2627 provides feminine and basic hygiene supplies to students at several
2728 Midland Independent School District schools; and
2829 WHEREAS, Over the past 75 years, the people of Midland have
2930 been fortunate to benefit from the far-reaching contributions of
3031 the Junior League, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the
3132 group's proud tradition of leadership, service, and civic
3233 engagement; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3435 hereby commend the Junior League of Midland for its exemplary
3536 record of service and that all those associated with the
3637 organization be extended sincere best wishes for continued success
3738 with their important work; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for the Junior League of Midland as an expression of high
4041 regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
