9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Originally known as the Midland Service League, the |

10 | 11 | | Junior League of Midland was founded in 1949 with the mission to |

11 | 12 | | advance women's leadership through volunteer action, |

12 | 13 | | collaboration, and training; in 1964, it was officially admitted as |
---|
13 | 14 | | the 195th league in the Association of Junior Leagues, and over the |
---|
14 | 15 | | years, it has amassed an impressive record of community service and |
---|
15 | 16 | | supported countless individuals and families in need; today, the |
---|
16 | 17 | | organization counts nearly 600 members who annually donate more |
---|
17 | 18 | | than 16,000 hours of service; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Among its many initiatives, the Junior League offers |
---|
19 | 20 | | an after-school reading program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Permian Basin in Midland, and it holds weekly workshops as part of |
---|
21 | 22 | | its Suits with Skills project, which provides job-skills mentoring |
---|
22 | 23 | | for female survivors of domestic abuse; in 2017, the organization |
---|
23 | 24 | | partnered with Communities in Schools of the Permian Basin to |
---|
24 | 25 | | create IMPACT yearlong mentoring programming for local at-risk |
---|
25 | 26 | | students; moreover, the group's most recent endeavor, Pink Pantry, |
---|
26 | 27 | | provides feminine and basic hygiene supplies to students at several |
---|
27 | 28 | | Midland Independent School District schools; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Over the past 75 years, the people of Midland have |
---|
29 | 30 | | been fortunate to benefit from the far-reaching contributions of |
---|
30 | 31 | | the Junior League, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the |
---|
31 | 32 | | group's proud tradition of leadership, service, and civic |
---|
32 | 33 | | engagement; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |

34 | 35 | | hereby commend the Junior League of Midland for its exemplary |
