78 WHEREAS, Autry C. Stephens is being posthumously inducted
89 into the Petroleum Hall of Fame on April 10, 2025; and
910 WHEREAS, Established in 1967 by the Permian Basin Petroleum
1011 Museum in Midland, the Petroleum Hall of Fame recognizes
1112 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the
1213 development of the petroleum industry or have served as inspiring
1314 examples to those in the industry; and
1415 WHEREAS, Autry Stephens was born in Comanche County in 1938;
1516 he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in petroleum
1617 engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, and after
1718 working with various oil companies, he founded a sole
1819 proprietorship in 1979, which transformed into Endeavor Energy
1920 Resources, LP, in 2000; under his leadership, the company grew to
2021 become one of the largest private oil and gas operators in the
2122 Permian Basin; known for fostering a culture of innovation within
2223 the industry, Mr. Stephens pioneered techniques for maximizing
2324 production; moreover, he was an active philanthropist until his
2425 passing in 2024, and his company supported such organizations as
2526 Habitat for Humanity and the Museum of the Southwest; and
2627 WHEREAS, Through his tremendous vision, energy, and business
2728 acumen, Autry Stephens achieved a rare degree of success in the
2829 dynamic oil and gas industry, and he is indeed a worthy addition to
2930 the Petroleum Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3132 hereby honor the memory of Autry C. Stephens on the occasion of his
3233 posthumous induction into the Petroleum Hall of Fame and pay
3334 tribute to his life and legacy; and, be it further
3435 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3536 prepared for his family as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3637 House of Representatives and Senate.
