8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The State of Texas enjoys a far-reaching reputation |

9 | 9 | | for its diverse and distinctive foods and for its many highly |
---|
10 | 10 | | regarded restaurants; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, While exceptional eateries can be found throughout |
---|
12 | 12 | | the state, certain communities stand apart for offering a |
---|
13 | 13 | | concentration of popular and unique restaurants; of these, the city |
---|
14 | 14 | | of Roanoke is deserving of particular recognition for being an |
---|
15 | 15 | | immensely popular dining destination; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Roanoke is of modest size, with a population of |
---|
17 | 17 | | around 10,800, yet its lineup of notable restaurants attracts |
---|
18 | 18 | | patrons from throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as well as |
---|
19 | 19 | | from other parts of the state; this charming city includes more than |
---|
20 | 20 | | 60 eating establishments that make it a diner's delight; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Oak Street in downtown Roanoke is a compelling |
---|
22 | 22 | | destination for patrons, and the many vintage buildings in this |
---|
23 | 23 | | attractive district have earned it a spot on the National Register |
---|
24 | 24 | | of Historic Places; moreover, the downtown businesses present a |
---|
25 | 25 | | great variety of cuisines and dining experiences, ranging from |
---|
26 | 26 | | gourmet food to Mexican specialties; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Not far away, additional thriving restaurants are |
---|
28 | 28 | | found along Highway 377/Front Street, and other areas of Roanoke |
---|
29 | 29 | | also uphold the city's tradition of good eating; these include the |
---|
30 | 30 | | Byron Nelson Parkway/Business 114 thoroughfare and the |
---|
31 | 31 | | intersection of Highways 377 and 114; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The individuality and outstanding quality of |
---|
33 | 33 | | Roanoke's dining spots have earned this historic community the |
---|
34 | 34 | | admiration of numerous culinary enthusiasts and have made it a |
---|
35 | 35 | | favorite place to visit, and the city's flourishing restaurant |
---|
36 | 36 | | scene is a testament to the eclectic and delicious epicurean |
---|
37 | 37 | | offerings of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | hereby designate Roanoke as the official Unique Dining Capital of |
---|
40 | 40 | | Texas; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
---|
42 | 42 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
---|
43 | 43 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
---|
44 | 44 | | passed by the legislature. |
