7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The federal government is the responsible authority |

8 | 8 | | for immigration services and border control functions; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Policies set forth by President Joe Biden and his |
---|
10 | 10 | | administration resulted in historic levels of illegal immigration |
---|
11 | 11 | | along the southern border; according to the United States Customs |
---|
12 | 12 | | and Border Patrol, there were at least eight million reported |
---|
13 | 13 | | southwest border encounters from January 2021 to present; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The onslaught of illegal immigration under |
---|
15 | 15 | | President Joe Biden and his administration has burdened our state |
---|
16 | 16 | | beyond measure with crime and drains resources intended for |
---|
17 | 17 | | American citizens; |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, To compensate for the failures of the federal |
---|
19 | 19 | | government to enforce immigration laws, the state of Texas expended |
---|
20 | 20 | | at least $11 billion since 2021 to secure its southern border |
---|
21 | 21 | | through Operation Lone Star, a joint operation between the Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Department of Public Safety and the Texas Military Department; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that |
---|
24 | 24 | | Operation Lone Star resulted in a 74 percent decline in illegal |
---|
25 | 25 | | border crossings along the Texas southern border; now, therefore, |
---|
26 | 26 | | be it |
---|
27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
28 | 28 | | hereby demands that the United States Congress reimburse the State |
---|
29 | 29 | | of Texas for the $11 billion in costs incurred in securing the |
---|
30 | 30 | | southern border. |
---|
