57 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
68 WHEREAS, The members of the Lone Star Santas organization
79 have traveled across the State of Texas and beyond to bring holiday
810 cheer to children and families in need; and
911 WHEREAS, The nonprofit organization was first formed in 2007,
1012 and it went on to conduct its first Convoy of Toys in Joplin,
1113 Missouri, after the city was devastated by a tornado in May 2011;
1214 since then, Lone Star Santas has focused its efforts on providing
1315 hope and joy to communities affected by natural disasters; and
1416 WHEREAS, To date, the group has conducted well over 30 Convoy
1517 of Toys visits; the nonprofit relies solely on volunteers,
1618 including the individuals who portray the roles of Santa Claus,
1719 Mrs. Claus, and their elves and helpers; members donate their time
1820 and vehicles to this endeavor and provide for their own travel,
1921 lodging, and other expenses; and
2022 WHEREAS, By sharing their time and resources to help children
2123 and families facing adversity, the men and women of Lone Star Santas
2224 have set an inspiring example of goodwill and earned the heartfelt
2325 gratitude of countless people; now, therefore, be it
2426 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
2527 hereby designate September 16 as Lone Star Santas Charities Day;
2628 and, be it further
2729 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of
2830 Section 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in
2931 effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is
3032 finally passed by the legislature.
