5	7		CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
6	8		WHEREAS, The members of the Lone Star Santas organization
7	9		have traveled across the State of Texas and beyond to bring holiday
8	10		cheer to children and families in need; and
9	11		WHEREAS, The nonprofit organization was first formed in 2007,
10	12		and it went on to conduct its first Convoy of Toys in Joplin,
11	13		Missouri, after the city was devastated by a tornado in May 2011;
12	14		since then, Lone Star Santas has focused its efforts on providing
13	15		hope and joy to communities affected by natural disasters; and
14	16		WHEREAS, To date, the group has conducted well over 30 Convoy
15	17		of Toys visits; the nonprofit relies solely on volunteers,
16	18		including the individuals who portray the roles of Santa Claus,
17	19		Mrs. Claus, and their elves and helpers; members donate their time
18	20		and vehicles to this endeavor and provide for their own travel,
19	21		lodging, and other expenses; and
20	22		WHEREAS, By sharing their time and resources to help children
21	23		and families facing adversity, the men and women of Lone Star Santas
22	24		have set an inspiring example of goodwill and earned the heartfelt
23	25		gratitude of countless people; now, therefore, be it
24	26		RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
25	27		hereby designate September 16 as Lone Star Santas Charities Day;
26	28		and, be it further
27	29		RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of
28	30		Section 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in
29	31		effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is
30	32		finally passed by the legislature.
