11 | 11 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 11(a), Article XI, Texas Constitution, |
---|
13 | 13 | | is amended to read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (a) A Home Rule City may provide by charter or charter |
---|
15 | 15 | | amendment, and a city, town or village operating under the general |
---|
16 | 16 | | laws may provide by majority vote of the qualified voters voting at |
---|
17 | 17 | | an election called for that purpose, for a longer term of office |
---|
18 | 18 | | than two (2) years for its officers, either elective or appointive, |
---|
19 | 19 | | or both, but not to exceed four (4) years; provided, however, that |
---|
20 | 20 | | tenure under Civil Service shall not be affected hereby[; provided, |
---|
21 | 21 | | however, that such officers, elective or appointive, are subject to |
---|
22 | 22 | | Section 65(b), Article XVI, of this constitution, providing for |
---|
23 | 23 | | automatic resignation in certain circumstances, in the same manner |
---|
24 | 24 | | as a county or district officer to which that section applies]. |

25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Section 65, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is |
---|
26 | 26 | | repealed. |
---|
27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
---|
28 | 28 | | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. |
---|
29 | 29 | | The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the |
---|
30 | 30 | | proposition: "The constitutional amendment abolishing the |
---|
31 | 31 | | automatic resignation of certain municipal, county, or district |
---|
32 | 32 | | officeholders if they become candidates for another office." |
