11 | 11 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Section 1-v to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 1-v. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt | |
15 | 15 | from ad valorem taxation the total appraised value of the tangible | |
16 | 16 | personal property a person owns that consists of perishable | |
17 | 17 | inventory held for sale by the person at retail. | |
18 | 18 | (b) The legislature by general law may define "perishable | |
19 | 19 | inventory" for the purpose of this section, which may include | |
20 | 20 | prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and dietary | |
21 | 21 | supplements. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
23 | 23 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. | |
24 | 24 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
25 | 25 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the | |
26 | 26 | legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation certain perishable | |
27 | 27 | inventory held for sale at retail." |
