77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment to limit the time that a
99 person may serve as a member of the Texas House of Representatives
1010 to 12 consecutive years and as a member of the Texas Senate to 14
1111 consecutive years.
1212 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1414 adding Section 7a to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 7a. (a) A person may not serve more than 12
1616 consecutive years as a member of the house of representatives.
1717 (b) A person may not serve more than 14 consecutive years as
1818 a member of the senate.
1919 (c) A person is not eligible to be elected to office if the
2020 person's service during the term of office would violate Subsection
2121 (a) or (b) of this section.
2222 (d) The limitations provided by Subsections (a) and (b) of
2323 this section apply to consecutive service in the same elective
2424 office. Service in more than one elective office is not added
2525 together for purposes of Subsection (a) or (b) of this section.
2626 (e) Nothing in this section prohibits a person from
2727 continuing to serve in an office covered by this section after the
2828 end of a term as a holdover under Section 17, Article XVI, of this
2929 constitution until a successor is qualified.
3030 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
3131 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
3232 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
3333 following proposition: "The constitutional amendment to limit the
3434 time that a person may serve as a member of the Texas House of
3535 Representatives to 12 consecutive years and as a member of the Texas
3636 Senate to 14 consecutive years."
