12 | 12 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
14 | 14 | adding Section 1-z to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 1-z. The legislature by general or special law may | |
16 | 16 | authorize the governing body of a political subdivision to exempt | |
17 | 17 | from ad valorem taxation by the political subdivision for a period | |
18 | 18 | not to exceed 10 years the total market value of surplus real | |
19 | 19 | property that a person purchases from a school district. A general | |
20 | 20 | or special law adopted under this section may specify the type of | |
21 | 21 | surplus real property that may be exempted under this section and | |
22 | 22 | may provide additional eligibility requirements for the exemption. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
24 | 24 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. | |
25 | 25 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
26 | 26 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the | |
27 | 27 | legislature to provide for a temporary local option exemption from | |
28 | 28 | ad valorem taxation by a political subdivision of the total market | |
29 | 29 | value of surplus real property a person purchases from a school | |
30 | 30 | district." |
