77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature
99 to provide for a temporary local option exemption from ad valorem
1010 taxation by a political subdivision of the total market value of
1111 surplus real property a person purchases from a school district.
1212 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1414 adding Section 1-z to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 1-z. The legislature by general or special law may
1616 authorize the governing body of a political subdivision to exempt
1717 from ad valorem taxation by the political subdivision for a period
1818 not to exceed 10 years the total market value of surplus real
1919 property that a person purchases from a school district. A general
2020 or special law adopted under this section may specify the type of
2121 surplus real property that may be exempted under this section and
2222 may provide additional eligibility requirements for the exemption.
2323 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2424 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2525 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2626 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the
2727 legislature to provide for a temporary local option exemption from
2828 ad valorem taxation by a political subdivision of the total market
2929 value of surplus real property a person purchases from a school
3030 district."
