57 A JOINT RESOLUTION
68 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature
79 to define certain terms for purposes of the exemption from ad
810 valorem taxation of farm products in the hands of the producer.
911 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. Section 19, Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is
1113 amended to read as follows:
1214 Sec. 19. (a) Farm products[, livestock, and poultry] in the
1315 hands of the producer[,] and family supplies for home and farm
1416 use[,] are exempt from all taxation until otherwise directed by a
1517 two-thirds vote of all the members elected [elect] to both houses of
1618 the Legislature.
1719 (b) The Legislature by general law may define "farm
1820 products" and "in the hands of the producer" for purposes of this
1921 section and may include in the definition of "farm products"
2022 livestock, poultry, timber, and supplies used or produced in a
2123 farming operation.
2224 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2325 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2426 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2527 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
2628 legislature to define certain terms for purposes of the exemption
2729 from ad valorem taxation of farm products in the hands of the
2830 producer."
