77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment requiring the governor to call
99 the legislature into special session on petition of at least
1010 two-thirds of the members of each house of the legislature.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 8, Article IV, Texas Constitution, is
1313 amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1414 (c) The Governor shall by proclamation convene the
1515 Legislature in special session on receipt of a petition requesting
1616 the special session that is signed by at least two-thirds of the
1717 members of each house of the Legislature. The petition must state
1818 the date the Governor must convene the special session and the
1919 specific purpose or purposes for which the session is convened. The
2020 proclamation must provide for convening the Legislature on the date
2121 stated in the petition and must authorize the Legislature to
2222 consider the specific purpose or purposes stated in the petition.
2323 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2424 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2525 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2626 proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring the governor
2727 to call the legislature into special session on petition of at least
2828 two-thirds of the members of each house of the legislature."
