77 A JOINT RESOLUTION
88 proposing a constitutional amendment changing the vote requirement
99 in the legislature to approve a proposed constitutional amendment
1010 for submission to the voters of this state to two-thirds of the
1111 members present in each chamber of the legislature.
1212 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. Section 1(a), Article XVII, Texas Constitution,
1414 is amended to read as follows:
1515 (a) The legislature [Legislature], at any regular session,
1616 or at any special session when the matter is included within the
1717 purposes for which the session is convened, may propose amendments
1818 revising the constitution [Constitution], to be voted upon by the
1919 qualified voters for statewide offices and propositions, as defined
2020 in the constitution [Constitution] and statutes of this state
2121 [State]. The date of the elections shall be specified by the
2222 legislature [Legislature]. The proposal for submission must be
2323 approved by an affirmative [a] vote in each house of two-thirds of
2424 [all] the members present [elected to each House], entered by yeas
2525 and nays on the journals.
2626 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2727 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025.
2828 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2929 proposition: "The constitutional amendment changing the vote
3030 requirement in the legislature to approve a proposed constitutional
3131 amendment for submission to the voters of this state to two-thirds
3232 of the members present in each chamber of the legislature."
