| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce is |

| 9 | 9 | | hosting its annual Lemonade Day Galveston County event on May 3, |

| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A nationwide program designed to teach children |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | entrepreneurial skills, Lemonade Day was first brought to Galveston |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | by the chamber's education committee in 2012; each year during |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Lemonade Day Galveston County, children in kindergarten through |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | fifth grade operate lemonade stands and are responsible for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | creating a budget, setting goals, serving customers, and repaying |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | investors; participants learn business skills and financial |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | literacy while also developing confidence and self-reliance; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by area businesses, Lemonade Day |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Galveston County includes kickoff parties, including those at local |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | schools and youth organizations as well as a larger celebration, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | along with a lemonade tasting contest and a variety of other events; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the initiative serves to unite Galveston's business and educational |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | communities and to raise awareness of the chamber among area |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | residents; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through its Lemonade Day program, the Galveston |

| 27 | 27 | | Regional Chamber of Commerce is helping Galveston County's youngest |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | residents to reach their full potential and to become engaged and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | productive members of their community; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Lemonade Day Galveston County |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | hosted by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and extend to |

| 33 | 33 | | all those associated with the program sincere best wishes for a |

| 34 | 34 | | successful event; and, be it further |
