10 | 10 | | Schertz, has been named the 2025 Environmental Educator of the Year |

11 | 11 | | by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; and |

12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the TCEQ honors achievements in |
---|
13 | 13 | | environmental preservation and protection through its Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | Environmental Excellence Awards program, and the Environmental |
---|
15 | 15 | | Educator of the Year award recognizes a distinguished educator who |
---|
16 | 16 | | has highlighted environmental education; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Ms. Debney has dedicated her |
---|
18 | 18 | | career to shaping the next generation of environmental stewards; as |
---|
19 | 19 | | the AP environmental science teacher at Clemens High, she teaches |
---|
20 | 20 | | all aspects of the curriculum, from biodiversity and population |
---|
21 | 21 | | dynamics to the effects of energy and water use, and she has worked |
---|
22 | 22 | | tirelessly to provide her students with hands-on, real-world |
---|
23 | 23 | | experiences through a variety of projects such as designing |
---|
24 | 24 | | sustainable homes, cleaning local parks, and drafting mock |
---|
25 | 25 | | legislation addressing environmental challenges; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Debney |
---|
27 | 27 | | oversees a number of other initiatives and projects that showcase |
---|
28 | 28 | | her willingness to go above and beyond; she takes her students on a |
---|
29 | 29 | | field trip each spring to gather water and soil samples as part of |
---|
30 | 30 | | an ongoing, yearslong study of a local park, allowing them the |
---|
31 | 31 | | opportunity to use professional-quality equipment to collect and |
---|
32 | 32 | | analyze data; she also supervised the research of four students |
---|
33 | 33 | | tasked with formulating a plan to help school districts become more |
---|
34 | 34 | | sustainable, and under her able guidance, the group won the 2024 |
---|
35 | 35 | | Siemens Texas STEM Pathways Challenge; moreover, she was awarded a |
---|
36 | 36 | | Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District |
---|
37 | 37 | | education grant last fall for her initiative, Training Future |
---|
38 | 38 | | Loraxes, which involves Clemens High students working |
---|
39 | 39 | | collaboratively alongside students from Rose Garden Elementary |

40 | 40 | | School to conduct an environmental survey; and |

41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, By encouraging her students and other members of the |

42 | 42 | | community to preserve and protect their environment, Kacy Debney is |

43 | 43 | | helping to ensure the continued health and vitality of the Lone Star |

44 | 44 | | State's natural resources, and she is indeed deserving of this |

45 | 45 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

47 | 47 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Kacy Debney on her selection as the |

48 | 48 | | 2025 Environmental Educator of the Year by the Texas Commission on |
---|
49 | 49 | | Environmental Quality and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
