77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Lisa McWashington of Galena Park has distinguished
99 herself as a member of the Texas Partners in Policymaking Class of
1010 2025; and
1111 WHEREAS, Organized by the Texas Council for Developmental
1212 Disabilities, Texas Partners in Policymaking is a leadership
1313 training program designed to empower adults with developmental
1414 disabilities and their families as advocates for policy change;
1515 over the course of seven months, participants learn about
1616 disability history, systems, and policy while meeting with a
1717 variety of subject matter experts; many graduates have gone on to
1818 serve on various boards, councils, task forces, and advisory
1919 committees, and some have run for public office; and
2020 WHEREAS, Ms. McWashington participated in the Texas Partners
2121 in Policymaking program as a self-advocate and parent, and she
2222 completed a capstone initiative that champions the rights of
2323 individuals with addiction and criminal records from more than 10
2424 years prior to serve as guardians for people with disabilities;
2525 drawing from her experience raising her daughter, Ashley, she
2626 argues for a more rehabilitative and fair approach to guardianship
2727 decisions, highlighting the importance of an individual's ability
2828 to provide support after undergoing rehabilitation and personal
2929 growth; and
3030 WHEREAS, By taking part in the Texas Partners in Policymaking
3131 program, Lisa McWashington has developed the knowledge and skills
3232 necessary to effect positive change in her community and beyond,
3333 and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing her for this notable
3434 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3636 Legislature hereby congratulate Lisa McWashington on graduating as
3737 a member of the Texas Partners in Policymaking Class of 2025 and
3838 extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for Ms. McWashington as an expression of high regard by
4141 the Texas House of Representatives.
